A Door Should Close, Lock and Seal the Way It Was Meant To.

THE RIGHT SCOPE—NOT THE BIGGEST SCOPE

Repair, Complete Replacement or New Installation?

A sticking or leaking door does not automatically need to be replaced. The condition of the slab, hinges, jamb, frame, threshold and surrounding opening determines the correct scope.

01
REPAIR THE EXISTING DOOR

Keep what is sound. Correct what is causing the problem.

Repair is often appropriate when the door itself is usable and the issue is limited to alignment, hardware, sealing or one damaged part of the frame.

Common repair situations

  • Door rubs, drags, sticks or swings by itself
  • Latch, strike plate or lock no longer lines up
  • Localized jamb, casing or trim damage
  • Drafts caused by worn weatherstripping or door sweep
Goal: smooth operation, secure latching and a cleaner seal.
02
COMPLETE REPLACEMENT

Replace the unit when repair would only hide a larger issue.

Replacement may be the better investment when the door or frame has extensive damage, no longer fits the opening or repeatedly allows air, light or water through.

Common replacement situations

  • Warped, split, swollen or deteriorated door
  • Extensive frame, jamb or threshold damage
  • Repeated sealing problems after prior adjustments
  • Changing the style, configuration or complete entry unit
Goal: a correctly sized unit that operates and seals as one system.
03
NEW INSTALLATION

Fit the new door to the opening—not the opening to guesswork.

A professional installation checks compatibility before work begins and aligns the door, frame, hardware, trim and seal as a complete assembly.

Doors we can evaluate

  • Interior and exterior entry doors
  • French, bifold, barn and pocket doors
  • Slab doors and prehung door units
  • Customer-supplied doors after compatibility is confirmed
Goal: proper reveal, swing, latch, finish and long-term operation.
Not sure which category fits? That is normal. Photos usually show whether the next step is an adjustment, repair or complete replacement evaluation.

TAP THE DOOR • SEE POSSIBLE PROBLEMS

What Could Be Causing the Problem?

You do not need to diagnose or repair it yourself. Tap a marker to see what each part does and the common signs that something may need attention.

Tap a numbered marker. You will see possible symptoms, not do-it-yourself repair instructions.

01 / HINGES

They support and position the door.

The three hinges carry the door's weight and help maintain an even gap around the slab.

Possible problem signs

  • The door sags or the gaps look uneven.
  • Screws are loose, spinning or pulling from the wood.
  • The door squeaks, shifts or rubs the frame or floor.

WHEN REPAIR IS NOT THE RIGHT SCOPE

Some Doors Need a Complete Replacement.

The repair evaluation also checks whether a new unit would be a safer and better long-term value. Replacement may make more sense when damage or incompatibility affects the complete opening.

  • The slab is warped, split, swollen or extensively damaged
  • The jamb, threshold or complete frame has widespread damage
  • The existing door repeatedly fails to seal after adjustments
  • The opening and selected door are not compatible

WHAT CHANGES THE RECOMMENDATION

Six Areas That Shape the Scope and Price.

A useful estimate explains what is being corrected. These are the main conditions that can turn a simple adjustment into a repair or a full replacement.

01

Door Condition

Warping, swelling, cracks, prior alterations and overall structural condition.

02

Frame and Jamb

Alignment, localized damage, movement, previous repairs and available fastening.

03

Threshold and Seal

Perimeter gaps, sweep contact, weatherstripping, caulk and accessible water paths.

04

Hardware

Hinges, latch, strike, lockset, handles and compatibility with the selected door.

05

Trim and Finish

Casing removal or replacement, surface transitions, caulking and finish expectations.

06

Access and Materials

Door type, size, weight, jobsite access and whether materials are supplied or sourced.

No surprise scope. If concealed damage becomes visible only after removal, it should be explained before additional work is performed.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Answers Before You Contact Us.

Can you repair only the jamb or frame?

Sometimes. A localized damaged section may be repairable when the surrounding material and the rest of the opening are sound. Wider damage, movement or deterioration can require a larger scope.

Can you make the door seal better?

Depending on the cause, the solution may include alignment, weatherstripping, a door sweep, threshold work, caulking or frame correction. Replacing weatherstripping alone will not correct an uneven or damaged opening.

What is the difference between a slab and a prehung door?

A slab is the door panel without a new frame. A prehung unit includes the door already mounted in a jamb. The right choice depends on the condition and dimensions of the existing opening.

Do you install customer-supplied doors?

Yes, when the product is the correct type, size, handing and jamb configuration for the opening. Send the product information before purchasing whenever possible.

Should I buy the door before requesting an estimate?

It is usually better to confirm measurements and compatibility first. A product can match the listed width and height but still be wrong for the swing, jamb depth, threshold or frame condition.

What photos should I send?

Send the full door from both sides, each side of the frame, the threshold, the top gap and close-ups of the problem area. If you already selected a door, include the product label or link.

Can the final scope be confirmed from photos alone?

Clear photos often provide a strong first evaluation and may be enough for a straightforward scope. Measurements or an on-site check may still be needed before materials are ordered or hidden conditions are confirmed.

Is the estimate free?

Estimates based on clear project photos and measurements are free. When an on-site consultation is needed, the $70 visit fee is credited toward the approved project.
